We’ve all been there: you’re ready to write a blog post or add content to your website and simply can’t come up with the words. (This blog post was written under similar conditions.) Or, maybe writing isn’t your strong suit. But fear not! Our team has discovered how to use the impressive power of artificial intelligence to help write web copy.
Because it’s not human-generated, AI content is also copyright-free, so you can use it on your website. However, there are a few tricks we recommend to keep your content more human-sounding. We also always recommend checking for accuracy, as AI is not perfect and can make mistakes.
What AI Tools Should You Use?
It seems like just about everyone is integrating some sort of artificial intelligence technology to their software and apps. Open any major app on your phone and it’ll likely prompt you to use AI. Which tool you use is up to you, but some generative AI tools require additional subscriptions or payment to use. For free content writing, we like ChatGPT and Google Gemini best.
How to Use AI
AI Can Structure Your Writing
Sometimes starting is the hardest part. This is where AI can be useful. Talk to it! Tell it exactly what you want to create, in what tone, and even what length, and let it go to work. Truthfully, you can ask AI to write your entire blog article for you, but we advise against using 100% un-edited AI content. Typically it doesn’t sound “human” enough, and Google can tell if your website was created by a robot.
Instead, try to break your article into smaller parts, take the phrases or sentences you like and edit from there.
AI Can Stir Up Ideas
Maybe you don’t need AI to write the entire article for you, but need a little help with ideas. This is a fantastic way to use it. Ask it to come up with some bullet points, questions or topics that may help you get going. From there, you can flush out an article with words of your own.
AI Can Educate You
Let’s be honest: not all of us know everything. Sometimes you have to write something on a topic you’re not familiar with. AI can help you with the research process by honing in on the relevant information you need to know so you don’t spend hours going down a Google rabbit hole. The best way to use AI to learn is to ask it questions! Think of it as your personal expert on just about any topic, but remember it isn’t always perfect or 100% accurate, so make sure you double check before including something specific like dates, names or stats, and always include a credible source.
AI For Web Copy
One of the hardest things for our clients is coming up with all the little pieces of copy that go into a website. Headers, subtitles, descriptions for photos, homepage introductions, calls-to-action… it can be daunting to have to write all of this when you’re building a new website. This is a great instance for AI assistance, even if you just use it as a placeholder until you have more time to customize your copy.
The key to using AI for web content is to be specific and give it enough information and feedback so it can learn your goal better. It’s also important to remember it isn’t foolproof and should not be solely relied on to provide all your content. The human element of conversation is still crucial not only for a better user experience for your visitors, but also for good Google rankings. Use AI responsibly!
