Project Deliverables
Our goal was to create a sister website similar to Grain Belt’s parent company, August Schell Brewing Co. Both sites are equipped with the same handy features, but showcase each of the legendary Midwest brands in their own unique style.
About The Client
Grain Belt has been a Minnesota legend since 1893. Known in the early years as the Minneapolis Brewing Company. Over the years Grain Belt changed hands several times due to many brewing industry hardships. As fate would have it, Schell’s Brewery purchased the labels in 2002 and have been brewing it in New Ulm ever since.
Grain Belt became famous for their quintessential regional brews such Grain Belt Golden and their flagship beer, Grain Belt Premium, which first debuted in 1947. Premium is still their pride and joy today and has paved the way for a growing product line which has now extended into the hard seltzer market, with the addition of N’ICEBREAKERS in 2020. The beloved Minnesota born brand continues to grow and evolve through the years and shows that it is a Midwest staple that is here to stay.
Ground Zero Objectives
- Replicate the core theme of Schell’s Brewery website, but incorporate colors, typography, and branding elements unique to Grain Belt’s brand identity
- Integrate the same tools & features as Schell’s, such as the beer locator, social media aggregate feed, and blog
- Seamlessly link to Schell’s website when necessary by introducing a splash page to carefully lead users without abruptly leaving the Grain Belt website
- Utilize WordPress Gutenberg for easy editing to ensure smooth updates to the website’s pages and blog posts
Branding
Color & Typography
We worked with the Grain Belt design team to incorporate the recently refreshed elements of the general Grain Belt brand as well as the variations between the different beers and seltzers into the theme of the site.
Focal Points & Features
Beer Locator
We replicated the overall functionality of the beer locator feature from the Schell’s website, but added custom styling specific to Grain Belt and populated the tool with exclusive Grain Belt beers and seltzers.
“The Friendly Reminder” Blog
As the brewery’s social media and online presence has propelled in recent months, we wanted to build them a robust and flexible blog equipped with Gutenberg block capabilities making it easy for their social media marketing team to promote brewery news, new releases, promotions, and upcoming events.
Carrying on the Friendly Beer tradition
We are excited to be a part of Grain Belt’s legacy. Even though over 120 years has passed, the core vision still stands, to bring people together with kindness and the friendly beer in hand!
