Summertime In Minnesota

Explore the Shore

If you’re like us, we’ll find any excuse to get outside, and the fourth of July is no exception! So naturally, we felt inclined to share our favorite Minnesota destination spot. The North Shore is a perfect summer getaway and icon for those looking to lose themselves in thundering waves, native wildlife, and abundant hiking trails. If you’re looking for a way to cool off, here are some ways to explore:

Waterfalls Tour

Catching waterfalls in the summer heat. They’re raging, full of force, and a great place to experience both the beautiful & brutal power of water. If only for a short visit or to cool off, you need to include these cascading gems into your itinerary:

  • Glen Avon Falls – Beaver River | Beaver Bay
  • High Falls – Baptism River | Tettegouche State Park
  • Illgen Falls – Baptism River | Tettegouche State Park
  • Caribou Falls – Caribou River | Silver Bay
  • Heart of the Earth Falls – Kadunce River | Grand Marais
  • Partridge Falls – Pigeon River | Grand Portage

Agate Hunting

Want to take a stab at finding your own Lake Superior treasure? Keep your eyes open on its vast beaches come summer, when stormy days bring in waves of agates. Head out on a sunny day, typically after a summer storm has passed through, and they’ll be easy to spot illuminated by the sun. A prime hunting spot is located on Knife River. And if rocks aren’t your thing, enjoy lake views, rocky shore, campfire on the beach, or relish in some sweet treats from Great Lakes Candy Kitchen.

Trailblazing

Grab your gear and good solid hiking boots to view pristine vistas, rugged shoreline, boreal forests, and roaring rivers. Over 300 miles along Lake Superior, the Superior Hiking Trail is one of the best long distance routes. Be sure to include these on your next hiking extravaganza:
