Let’s be honest, building a website isn’t necessarily cheap and the time and money that you have invested into your website is substantial. Once complete, your website will be one of your most valuable business assets. A website represents the face of your business and works 24/7 to provide info, create leads, facilitate connections, process e-commerce orders and more. You may not see it on the surface, but there are a number of moving parts that work together to make this all happen. If even one of those moving parts isn’t maintained, your website could break.
WordPress maintenance is crucial to ensure that your website runs smoothly and stays secure. WordPress is a dynamic platform that requires regular updates and maintenance to keep up with the latest security features and functionality improvements. Neglecting WordPress maintenance can result in security breaches, malware infections, slow loading speeds, and poor performance.
Regular maintenance tasks include updating WordPress core, themes, and plugins, backing up your website, optimizing your database, and monitoring your website for errors or broken links. By staying on top of these tasks, you can ensure that your website is always up-to-date, secure, and performing at its best, providing the best possible user experience for your visitors. We have our finger on the pulse of all these rapid changes, and our maintenance plan covers it all. Here’s a basic overview of the challenges websites face every day.
Shocking stats, we know.
There are over 59,000 free WordPress plugins to choose from and that list continues to grow! Collectively, these plugins have received over 1 billion downloads. We carefully vet and monitor only the best ones.
A WordPress Giant
It’s no joke that WordPress is popular and widely used. There are over 455 million WordPress sites in the world today, essentially 43% of all the websites on the internet are powered by WordPress making it a very large target for hackers.
Active Plugin Count
A typical website uses anywhere between 20-50 different plugins. These control everything from image optimization to submission forms. The quantity of active plugins makes our job much harder to troubleshoot.
WordPress is an open-source software project being maintained and developed by a community of volunteer developers from around the world. It’s constantly changing and evolving to keep up with the latest technologies and trends, meaning we have to ensure all your core tech & plugins are compatible around the clock.
Monthly Maintenance Plan
To ensure your website is up to date and running smoothly, we have a monthly maintenance plan that covers all the bases. What are the bases? We’ve broken it down for you.
WordPress Core & Plugins
WordPress is a powerful platform made up of core technology and extensions that work together and need to be compatible to run your website. Your WordPress hosting plan likely includes managed plugin updates, but due to the volume of moving parts on your website, it’s not uncommon for issues to arise between WordPress core and plugins. In the event there is a conflict our team will investigate and troubleshoot the issue. Additionally, if there is a major update we spin up a testing environment to ensure nothing breaks before we update your live site.
Website Theme & Template Code
Code is the building block for your website, and powers everything from your theme to the devices you view sites on. As devices and browsers upgrade, it’s important that code stays compatible. As we uncover known issues, our developers take the time to look into them.
Having the tools to make changes to your content is arguably one of the most important features of your website. There are many options but our team is constantly on the lookout to select editing tools that are both reliable and user friendly. It’s a balancing act of providing enough features while maintaining an easy-to-use interface. Our team researches and evaluates new editor tools as they become available. We also ensure the tools you’re currently using are appropriately maintained.
If it’s new and exciting, we’re interested. Our team is always on the lookout for new technologies that elevate websites to the next level. If we think something new is going to benefit your business, we take the necessary R&D time to ensure it meets our standards. Even with the best technology, bugs and glitches happen. Fear not, our professionals know what to look for and are strategic in introducing new tech.
Security Threats & Vulnerabilities
Cyber crime is at all time high. Research suggests cyber attacks occur every 39 seconds, with 2,400 attacks on average per day. Security attacks cause irreparable damage to businesses, which can include being suspended or terminated by Google. Don’t wait to address security until it’s too late. Our maintenance plan prioritizes keeping your site running as expected and secure.
Think of your website as you would your car. Regular maintenance is essential to keep it in running order. Websites are no exception. Many components work together to make it run, and those components need to be maintained. Leaving your website untouched makes it more likely things will break. Additionally, outdated components increase security vulnerabilities.
Shouldn’t my hosting company handle maintenance?
It’s common for hosting plans to have managed plugin updates to ensure your website and its plugins are kept up-to-date monthly. Unfortunately, due to the volume of technology that has to interact together, there’s always a chance that compatibility issues will arise. If a plugin isn’t compatible, your site automatically reverts back to the previous version. This ensures updates won’t break, however, it means your site will have outdated versions of certain plugins. Your maintenance plan gives us the ability to troubleshoot these conflicts.
What if an update breaks my site?
We utilize technology that checks for WordPress updates daily. In the event that something breaks or is causing an issue the technology will revert the updates and restore your site to its previous state. We receive regular status updates and when problems arise, your maintenance plan gives us the ability to troubleshoot further.
Is accessibility compliance covered under maintenance or is this separate?
The primary goal of the maintenance plan is to focus on your website’s health. Accessibility is not currently covered under maintenance, however we offer accessibility tools powered by artificial intelligence that ensure level AA compliance. Contact us to talk about accessibility solutions.
Do you use multiple environments to safely develop and test new features?
All development and testing happens on a protected staging environment that will not impact your live site.
Is there a minimum contract length to a maintenance plan?
No, there is no minimum contract length. Contracts are on a month-to-month basis.
Are content and image updates included in the maintenance plan?
In an effort to keep the maintenance plan as affordable as possible, we do not include content or image updates in our plan. Content update requests can vary dramatically from client to client. We chose to leave this out of the maintenance plan average to make our pricing more fair.
Can you maintain sites you didn’t build?
Every situation is unique. We’re happy to evaluate your situation to see if a maintenance plan is right for you. Take advantage of a free consultation.
Do you offer bulk pricing for multiple sites?
Get in touch with us to discuss bulk pricing.
Will proper website maintenance help my search engine ranking?
Absolutely. Websites that are unmaintained throw huge red flags to search engines. You’ll see reduced traffic, less conversions, and less repeat visitors. Optimized sites that use up-to-date technology perform better for SEO.
